Patrick and Dr. R had a wonderful time at the 2023 Gordon Conference on Animal-Microbe Symbioses in Lucca, Italy. Highlights of the trip included stellar talks by leaders in the field of symbiosis, engaging and lively poster sessions, fun Power Hour conversations about international collaborations, an impromptu discussion session on “transient” symbionts, and excellent Italian food and gelato. Patrick presented a poster titled “Symbiont identity impacts host fitness under thermal stress in the bug-Caballeronia system” and Dr. R presented a poster called “Is the bug-Caballeronia symbiosis spatially or temporally structured?”
